hCG @ Human chorionic gonadotropin in pregnancy

Assalamualaikum wbt...

Human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) is a glycoprotein hormone.
produced in pregnancy that is made by the developing embryo soon after conception and later by the syncytiotrophoblast (part of the placenta). about one week after fertilization and ovulation, when the embryo implants and the placenta attaches to the uterine lining.

•hCG under 5 mIU/ml: Negative. Not pregnant

•hCG between 5-25 mIU/ml: "Equivocal". Maybe pregnant maybe not. Repeat test in a couple of days

•hCG over 25 mIU/ml: You are pregnant!

What are the hCG's role?
to prevent the disintegration of the corpus luteum of the ovary and thereby maintain progesterone production that is critical for a pregnancy in humans. hCG may have additional functions; for instance, it is thought that hCG affects the immune tolerance of the pregnancy.

How early can we do UPT @ home?
Early in pregnancy, more accurate results may be obtained by using the first urine of the morning when hCG levels are highest. We can begin testing for pregnancy at 7-10 days past ovulation.
